PackBot Griffon Takes To Air, Lands In Tree

With hundreds of PackBots already deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan, iRobot is looking to expand the robots’ capabilities. Projects include Wayfarer (autonomous navigation in urban environments), Daredevil (use of ultra wideband radar to help robots navigate through natural environments in adverse weather), and Griffon, which adds a steerable parafoil and gas powered propeller module onto the PackBot, turning it into a UAV. As you can see from the video after the jump, the concept is brilliant, even if the landing isn’t.

I think the guys making spyplanes for the military don’t have anything to worry about! :-D
