SPC-101

Consider it a walking webcam. Speecys announced the new version of their robot MI-RAI-RT, now called SPC-101. It has a video camera built into its head, so can recognize faces and also has the ability to communicate wirelessly with a PC, enabling it to be a walking security camera for your home.

Apparently, he is also able to recognize facial expressions judging by the “Peek-a-boo” image above. If you are away and get homesick for your new robot friend, never fear. You can communicate with him using your cell phone. He will read your email messages by voice command, and even dance while he does it.

The company’s goal is to sell 1,000 units at a little less than $3,000. They went on sale in Japan on Sept. 1st.
