Zombie Chair Cannot Be Destroyed

Writing by Evan Ackerman on Monday, 1 of October , 2007 at 4:02 am

It’s not quite Halloween yet, but (for your personal safety) robot zombie news just can’t wait. The mild mannered Robot Chair in the video below was designed by Max Dean and Raffaello D’Andrea, and it has the ability to reconstruct itself after being smashed to pieces. I’ve sped part of the first clip up 2x, since (like a zombie) speed is not the strong suit of this chair. The final bit is at normal speed, as is the second clip which shows the actual mechanisms in more detail:

The seat of the chair contains the brains (braaaaains), as well as 14 motors and 2 gearboxes. According to the description, the chair seems to depend to some extent on an external computer to direct it to the location of each part on the floor. So, it’s exactly like a video game monster: you can kill the chair over and over, but in order to win, you’ll have to find the secret hidden computer that’s actually in control. Before it’s too late.
