WeRobot Shirt Features 51 Robots, More Or Less

51 Robots

This awesome t-shirt has 51 (count ‘em) silhouettes of famous robots from all over the pop cultureosphere. Go on, try and place them all. If you can, I will send you a cookie. Or I would, if I could bake. I especially liked the inclusion of the Wrong Trousers… They’re fantastic for walkies, you know. The only thing is, I’m not sure if Daleks technically qualify as robots, since I’m pretty sure they’ve got creepy little baddies in there. Even the OED says that Daleks are cyborgs, which aren’t completely artificial. Oh well, I’m just being picky, 50 robots and an alien exosuit is still plenty good enough for me.

Buy one (yes, that’s an order) in charcoal, black, or red for $25.

Awesome! But… one of Robbie the Robot’s “ears” should be bent upwards at a right angle.

Ah by far my favorite robot, ED-209. I want to get a scale replica and keep it in my basement. Oh oh, or better yet my front lawn! Neighbors would love that…
Wall-E looks like a fat version of Johnny-5.

What were the two characters that were changed? One was “a robot dog that nobody recognized.” Was it Jimmy Neutron’s dog? The other one was determined to not be a robot. What was it? Is that Muffit from the original BSG in the lower right? Is that Rosie from the Jetsons above the Dalek? It’s great to see Rusty from BIG GUY AND RUSTY in there! What is the central tripod? Looks like a Martian war machine from War of the Worlds. Bubo rocks! Who is the quad above Maximillian from Black Hole?

This T-shirt RULES!

the robot dog in the upper left above Johny 5 is K-9 from Dr Who. I can name most of them … someone needs to make a key for this. If they dont have these in fat ppl sizes Im making my own.

K-9, Muffet (sp?), V.I.N.Cent, Dalek, Dr. Theopolis, Mechagodzilla, Sentinel, Twiki, Astroboy, R2D2, C-3P0, Maximillian, Archemedes, The Tin Man, Marvin the Paranoid Android (TV version), Marvin the Paranoid Android (movie version), Robot (Lost in Space), Cylon Centurion (orig. BSG), Wall-E, Johnny 5, Cylon Centurion (new BSG), Robot Girl (Metropolis) [yes, I know she has a name, I just can't remember it]. The Terminator T-800…

That’s all I can ID.

I see what looks like Baron Karza from the Micronauts on the lower left side below the original Cylon but if you go by the comic books (and I think toys too), he is not a robot.

The robot from Metropolis was named Maria.

I’m surprised no one’s recognised Crow and Tom Servo from MST3K, yet. At the top are one of the robots from Silent Running (Huey, Dewey, or Lewie) and HAL-9000’s eye. There’s also Bender from Futurama, The Iron Giant, a Destroyer Droid from Star Wars eps. I-III (but no Battle Droid?), a Rock ‘Em, Sock ‘Em robot in the middle, Optimus Prime on the right (no Megatron or Starscream?), Gort from The Day The Earth Stood Still above him, a robot from the early 80’s video game Berzerk, I think one of the Robotron robots… I think that’s supposed to be Voltron down at the bottom to the right of Maximillian, but he looks too skinny.

At first I could recognize less than half, but I think I can tell close to 90% of these robots, now.

Also missing: Kryten from Red Dwarf, Gir from Invader Zim, Honda’s ASIMO, IQ-9 from Star Blazers (aka Analyzer from Space Battleship Yamato), Mazinger Z, Giant Robo, Ultron and/or a Sentinel from Marvel comics (maybe H.E.R.B.I.E. from the Fantastic Four animated series? Heehee), Tik-Tok from Oz (a real mechanical man, vs. the debatable Tin Woodsman), a Hunter-Killer from Terminator, maybe KITT from Night Rider :) …

How about an Aibo from Sony? Or was that the robot dog no-one recognized that was removed? Maybe other toys, too: RoboSapien, Furby (that lower right robot looks a bit like a Furby, but I think it’s supposed to be Muffy the robot Daggit from the original BSG), R.O.B., the “robot” that came with the original Nintendo NES, Armatron, Tomy’s Omnibot (that squat toy with the cassette deck in its chest), Mr. Machine (the clear plastic robot with gears insie and a red top hat).

Or the original “home robots”: The Heathkit HERO 1, and Topo/BOB from Androbot, created by Nolan Bushnell (founder of Atari and Chuck E. Cheese) as he saw “personal robotics” to be the next big thing to follow personal computers–he was at least 25 years too early, though.

Stolen from the pre-existing Super7 monster and Spaceship Rorschach test tees. Super7 even has a robot print already (not made into a t-shirt yet) so why would you knock it off so deliberately?

Great lineup!

b, thanks for the ident on the quad! I’m going nuts trying to figure out who the bottom on the left side is below the original Battlestar Galactica Cylon. Also, I’m not certain who the one is between C-3PO and the Squid from the Matrix. He has one arm raised. I think he may have been from Titan AE, or from Heavy Metal 2000: F.A.K.K.. Is the little guy below Wall-E from a video game?

I love that they have both Marvins from HG2G, Crow and Tom Servo from MST-3000, and even Astroboy! Plus, I’m sure that Wall-E will be a hit. After all, it is a PIXAR film, and they have Ben Burtt doing sound effects! SWEET!!! I can’t wait to get mine and show it off at the next con! Thanks. :-D -Joe

Another not mentioned is owl from Clash of the Titans opposite RD-D2.
Astoboy in the upper left hand corner. Think I see Gigantor too.
I think that’s C3PO just below the owl.

Kinda would like to see a Veritech from Robotech or maybe a Gundam.
I agree that Megatron really ought to be there.

Far as I know MegaMan was a Robot created by Dr. Light – to be his like a son (and the concept was originally based inspired by Astro Boy.) Kinda a modern-day Pinocchio.
I slightly remember the Dr. upgrading Megaman from a normal robot so that he would have feelings and reactions similar to a real boy . . . (but I could be wrong, it’s been quite some time since I played those old games.)

As for Baron Karza – he was a power crazed leader (human).
But his desire for more power made him try to infuse his soul into his alien, high-tech black armor. Instead, the suit asorbed Karza’s “energy” persona to create the robotic-like Baron Karza, a soulless mechanical entity. (Some may argue this is like a cyborg – but there is no physical human parts inside Baron Karza. He’s all metal, powered by human energies – and I believe he absorbed such energies from many other humanoids too – not just the original human Karza.)

No one else thinks it’s kind of weird that they have the Tin Man on this? I mean, I know he doesn’t have a heart, but I guess I never thought of him as a robot.

Oh well, maybe I’m just crazy.

My favorites are definitely the Iron Giant and Rusty the Boy Robot.
