iRobot Eyes Your Lawn With Their Latest Bot

One of the more useful consumer bots to come out in the last several years is the Roomba. Who wouldn’t want a robot that sweeps their floor automatically? It’s a great gadget and all, however, we need more robots around the house. According to a recent patent filing, iRobot is eying your lawn with their next creation.
The 84-page patent filing shows us several new designs for a bot whose sole purpose is to trim your lawn. They seem to be looking at both an electric and a gasoline hybrid motor for power, and want to include a variety of features such as an edge trimmer, and the ability to remember the layout of your lawn for future mowings. What I wouldn’t have given for one of these as a kid. Then again I’m not sure it would be quite up to mowing 3 acres of land.

so now instead of having to mow your lawn you have to WATCH something mow your lawn? And I’m pretty sure I’d be able to cut my lawn faster than some 12″ tin can. What happens when someone goes to pick it up? We aren’t talking some sweeper broom here, this things got 3 spinning blades underneath. Or on the other hand, what happens when some decides they want a robot to mow THERE lawn and just walks off with it?
Its one thing to let Johnny-5 push a broom around my floors, its another to let him go out and hack at my magnolias…

iRobot is behind on the ball on this one, there are already several lawn mowing robots, and they have the ability to mow up to 20acres of land at a single time.
What I want to know is where will it put all the grass. I always bag mine, is it going to be able to bag it’s own grass or is it going to sit there and spew chopped grass on top of the mowed grass.
