Giant Protestbot Speaks Your Mind

ProtestBot

If you’ve ever wished to have mastery over a giant robot (and who hasn’t), RoboVox can give you the chance, at least for a little while. The 8 meter tall stationary installation (by artist Martin Bricelj) accepts text messages from any cell phone, and then reads the message aloud in a booming robot voice:

Its purpose is to serve as a tool for an individual, who’s voice usually gets lost in the sounds of the mass, the society. An individual can send a text message using his mobile phone to the dedicated RoboVox’s number. Upon receiving the SMS RoboVox says out loud the statement, the protest, the declaration of love, or whatever the message may read, thus lending its voice to the anonymous individual.

Seeing as you’ll probably be sending RoboVox a message from your phone, I’m not sure how much anonymity there really is. I’d probably recommend keeping your messages fairly benign… You know, friendly stuff, like “destroy all humans” over and over again.

I’m tempted… but do I really want a giant robot to have my phone number?
