Repliee R-1 Welcomes You To Uncanny Valley

Admittedly, the music doesn’t help, but still… The Repliee R-1 is modeled on a 5 year old girl (which are intrinsically creepy, if you ask me, but I blame horror movies). It dates from 2004/5, and while I’d like to think we’ve made significant progress since then, I still firmly believe that the most ‘lifelike’ robots tend to be the ones who aren’t designed to look like humans. More creepy pics if the Repliee R-1 sans skin, after the jump.

You would think they would have given it a better personality. Unless the kid’s parents are looking to replace the girl with a machine that actually cleans it’s room, and not shoves all the toys under the bed.

I’m getting a strong Buffalo Bill vibe here.

.) There are some interesting points in time in this article but I don’t know if I see all of them center to heart. There is some validity but I will take hold opinion until I look into it further. Good article , thanks and we want more! Added to FeedBurner as well
