U.S. Lags Behind Belgium In Industrial Robot Use
Writing by Evan Ackerman on Monday, 15 of December , 2008 at 8:11 am
You can probably guess that the US isn’t at the top of the list when it comes to the use of robots in industrial manufacturing. You can probably also guess who is at the top, and you’d be right by a gigantic margin: Japan. What you might not expect, though, is that the US places ninth on the list. That’s doing worse than Belgium, of all places.
Not that I have anything against Belgium. They make chocolate, and Tintin hails from there. But I would not have thought that they’d have a higher percentage of their industrial work performed by robots. To be fair, I also had no idea that Japan was sooo far ahead of the curve compared to the rest of the world. Yes, I’m jealous. After the jump, take a look at another chart that illustrates what all of these industrial bots are actually up to.

I would have, if I’d known about it in time to actually go! This happens a lot, and it kinda sucks, there needs to be some universal robot event mailing list or something…

So start one? Put some ads up, let people report any new events, make a nice calendar… Make some cash while doing what you love.

No surprise here. way back in the 70’s when robots were still in their infancy, Japan embraced robot technology for mass production while the US unions fought them tooth and nail. The auto industry is beginning to see the results of their respective decisions.

Soo.. following your outline of stereotypical hypothesis:
How on earth does the US actually catch up with belgium ? I mean, sure the US is known for their obesity phenonomen, their lame excuses for depriving innocent countries from their natuaral ressources and especially their metally challenged leaders but i would have never thought they could actually be in the top 10 of robotised countries.
What actually makes you think the US shouldnt be behind any other country ?
During bush’s whole canidature, where was the us tax dollar money going ? Developpement maybe ? Of course not, it was being spent to send your brothers to Iraq.
I hate when you US capitalists feel offended by your lack of tech yet seem to be in accord with all the problems your gmnt creates. Wake up you twit.
