Tomy TXR-002 MechBot

Yesterday we posted about a Tomy vacuuming robot from 1985. Poking around the Old Robots webpage (which is definitely worth a look if you have a few minutes), I spotted the Tomy TXR-002, from the early 90s. The TXR-002 is a bipedal mech-style robot that can walk, and also has an independently controllable upper body that swivels and tilts. The arms are swappable, and you can outfit the TXR-002 with a flashlight arm, a gripper arm, a compressor driven punching arm, or even a BB gun arm with a 50 round magazine.
Although the webpgage doesn’t go into much more detail, the bot also looks like it might have a camera in its chest. If so (or if you could replace it with a wireless video camera), it would make a pretty badass retro Mechwarrior for the new Mech Warfare class which will be featured at Robogames 2009.
