Video Friday: iRobot Busts Out Of The Recession With A HamsterBot

Writing by Evan Ackerman on Friday, 20 of February , 2009 at 1:00 am

iRobot showed off this hamster controlled Create at CES 2007, but now they need it more than ever… As they say at the beginning of the video, all they’ve gotta do is rip off the hamsterdance music, post it on YouTube, and they’ll be on their way straight to the top. Best of luck, guys, but if you really want it to make a difference, you might want to enable advertising on your YouTube channel.

The “Bionic Hamster” edition of the Create supports a hamster ball with three rollers, and uses an optical sensor to measure which way the hamster is moving the ball, and how fast. The sensor data is fed to a microprocessor which drives the Create in the same way. Remember, this is exactly what the Create is designed to do: whatever you want. You can get your own Create to play with from iRobot for $130.

On a side note, it’s a shame what’s happened to hamsterdance.com. It use to be so pure.
