Multiple Kill Vehicle Cut From DoD Budget
Writing by Evan Ackerman on Friday, 8 of May , 2009 at 4:38 am
This crazy ballistic missile interception robot has, sadly, been cut from the Defense Department’s 2010 budget. It’s understandable, I suppose: how much money do we really need to spend on new and innovative ballistic missile defense programs nowadays? Still, the technology embodied in this thing is just too cool to vanish due to budget cuts… Like, how about we forget about autonomous and unmanned helicopters and just start using hovering robotic rockets? You won’t even NEED missiles, just fly something like this around and you’ll get people surrendering left and right, whether they’re guilty or not.

When I watched this I thought it was like a floating nail bomb or something. The thrusters rapidly firing all around threw me off. Imagine, though if the thing shot bullets out instead of thrust? You drop this in the middle of an enemy camp and it’d kill everything! That’d be a sick weapon…

Unfortunately that’s the way war is going. The mechanization of war to optimize the speed and efficiency of killing. But if you think that robot in the video is bad, imagine 100,000 of them flying over a horizon at you, in a huge swarm towards you, each like a flying bomb, each seeking out and destroying the target it chooses to lock onto, no matter how that target tries to get away. Humans fighters are obsolete in war. But it won’t end war.
I wish technology could be used to make life better, rather than finding ever better ways to kill each other. But then the people who want to kill others say they do it for good reasons (when their real unspoken reason is they do it ultimately out of fear. The one reason they would never admit. Most would use any excuse rather than admit the truth. The two driving forces behind war are fear and greed. The fearful minority of the population build better weapons (before the one’s they fear do the same), while the greedy minority of the population work to manipulate and pressure others to gain ever more power and money for themselves, which pushes and pressures tensions and unfairness against others until its erupts in violence).
Ironically I think robotics gives one of the best hopes for humanity to finally make lasting peace, because to achieve the goal of truly intelligent robots, it means humanity has to finally confront and learn to deal with how human intelligence works and in doing so, that highlights the reasons why people behave the way they do. Everyone finally needs to learn the reasons why people behave the way they do, including the minority who choose to cause harm to others (ultimately for their own gain), even if everyone learns this just for their own protection against such people and it is through this self interested route that the whole human race will eventually learn.
I don’t believe its a question of if people will learn, I think its only a question of when will everyone finally learn. The longer it takes to learn, the more harm the self interested minority will cause others, which will create ever greater pressure in society, to force everyone to finally learn to deal with the minority who ultimately behave the way they do, for their own gain.
The sooner everyone learns, the better. :)

typical liberal rubish, you tards do understand this is a defensive system right? its whole purpose is to increase the chances of stoping a missle with a nuke or chem/bio warhead from killing millions at its intended target…once launched an ICBM is a pure killing machine, this technology allows the people who are about to get vaporized a chance to save themselves. Dont whine about everyone would be safer without a means of defence agains icbms because no country that would use them is EVER going to give them up ask china or iran to give them up you will be killed if you asked them in person that argument is retarded. the very fact that defence is possible stops would be rouge powers from even trying an agressive act
