Fukitorimushi Floor Cleaning Robot

Fukitorimushi

As much as we may love our Roombas, they’re not the most organic of machines. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, but sometimes it can be a little alienating… Unless you’re a crazy robot fanatic, of course. You know who you are. Panasonic aims to change things up with a cleaning robot that looks and acts more like a living thing. The Fukitorimushi floor wiping robot isn’t really a vacuum; it’s more like a mobile microfiber mop. The robot autonomously crawls around, wiping things up by dragging its microfiber belly across the floor:

Those lights you see on the front are some kind of dirt sensors that tell the Fukitorimushi to spend a little extra time floundering around on a certain spot. It’s capable of finding its way back to a charging dock, but you’ll have to switch out and wash its cover yourself, a process which Panasonic thinks “may encourage a pet-like affection” for the bot. There’s no information on when (or if) the Fukitorimushi might be available.
