DIY Master-Slave Robot

RoboSavvy forums user rodmanLT built himself this master-slave control system for a Kondo KHR-1HV. He used six “big fat potentiometers (soviet military technology from 1960’s)” to collect data from his joint movements and transmit commands to the robot, giving him direct control over the robot’s arms. Yeah, there’s a little bit of lag, but the degree of control is impressive and it’s good enough for catching flying tigers, which is all you really need to be able to do, after all.

There may be some bandwidth issues, but as soon as those get ironed out rodmanLT plans to finish implementing full upper body control and then (hopefully) move on to the legs and torso. I’m picturing some awesome new RoboGames events using master-slave robot suits… Like, robot Kung-Fu and real life Kung-Fu at the same time!
