Robot Infographic
Writing by Evan Ackerman on Tuesday, 13 of April , 2010 at 12:51 am

This infographic is a nice National Robot Week-y overview of the industry. It doesn’t have any info that will shock dedicated BotJunkie readers (not even the bit about the cow milking robots), but it’s fun to glance through and has cute robot graphics.
The only thing I take issue with is where the artist says that ASIMO “doesn’t really have much of a purpose.” To that I would just say, of what purpose, sir, is a newborn baby? Hrmph.
It’s absurdly long, and you can view the whole thing after the jump.

I like the subtle use of a suggestive shape for the graphic comparing the robotics industry to the porn industry.
I’m curious about the notion of people pre-cleaning their floors as a sign of emotional attachment to their Roombas… it sounds like a cutely polite gesture, but I suspect people pre-clean only because they worry the Roomba will be physically unable to handle the mess they’ve made…

We posted about the study the graphic is referring to a few years ago, check it out:

Next time I make a Babies Infographic I’ll put in they don’t have much of a purpose neither.

I agree that it’s way too long and I could not finish reading the whole thing – which totally defeats the purpose of creating an infographic in the first place.

The Australian government doesn’t like robots. Unfortunately they don’t approve of the internet as much either. If they had their way, they might still be reading nwesprint papers, listening to the radio for special events, playing vinyl on hand cranked Victrolas, and importing UK political prisoners. Did someone forget to tell them its the 21st century, and not the 18th century?

Robot Land, huh? Who woulda thought…. So, the infographic couldn’t have compared the monetary worth of robots to something else? How about the revenue from pharmacies, or oil or Wal-Mart for crying out loud?
