Adept @ NRW: Quattro vs. Wiimote

Writing by Evan Ackerman on Monday, 19 of April , 2010 at 12:55 am

Back in November of last year, you might recall the Adept Quattro being declared the world’s fasted pick and place industrial robot, able to cycle some 300 times per second. At National Robotics Week, we got a chance to see the Quattro firsthand, and challenge it with a Wiimote-controlled moving platform:

The holes for the chip things are pretty much the same size as the chips themselves, so the robot has to be incredibly precise in its placement. Watching this demonstration, it really hits home that this robot is doing something that’s not humanly possible. We’re used to seeing robots try desperately hard to duplicate even the simplest human actions, and it’s awesome to be reminded that robots are still very very good at doing certain very specific things with a precision that we humans are simply not capable of.

It truly is rare to find an expert in whom you can have some confidence. In the world these days, nobody genuinely cares about showing others the answer in this issue. How fortuitous I am to have actually found a wonderful web page as this. It’s people like you who really make a real difference these days through the concepts they talk about.
