Neato XV-11 Update: Robots Confirmed To Be Shipping

Writing by Evan Ackerman on Thursday, 29 of July , 2010 at 12:05 am

A bunch of you have been wondering what the deal is with the Neato XV-11 robot vacuum, since it was a month ago that Neato said they’d started shipping their pre-orders. We got in touch with Neato, and they’ve confirmed that the robots are shipping to people who placed a pre-order. If they seem to be moving kinda slowly getting the bots in the mail, it’s for a good reason: they’ve had an “overwhelming response” to the pre-orders that “exceeded expectations” and they’ve run into a bit of a backlog. Neato says that they should be caught up before the end of August. If you want one, it’s worth noting that they won’t bill your credit card until the robot actually ships.

Anybody get theirs yet? Please post if/when you do!

Finally have a confirmation of shipping! But on a side note, have you seen Neato’s infomercial? Cheez Whiz! Personally, I think it kind of cheapens the image, but hey – tough economic times, I suppose…

I tend to agree, but I mean, have you ever seen an infomercial that WASN’T cheezy? I think they must be illegal.

Here’s the infomercial:

Finally received my Neato yesterday. Nicely packed and great user manual. I somehow thought it was gold in color, but it is actually army green with its hunter orange accents. A slightly odd choice, but if that hunting theme works for you, great! It wasn’t charged out of the box (not that I expected it to be), but after 2 hours, it was up and running. It’s quieter than expected, but nothing you could run while sleeping. It did have some navigation issues, like moving from my bare wood floor onto a wool oriental rug, but overcame that when it rerouted itself over the fringe. It is a bit agressive in trying to move over low lying objects though, even if it doesn’t quite have the logic to determine that non-movement means to reroute until several attempts. It got stuck trying to get under my sofa and loveseat that was just a 1/4″ shy of being able to fit (it fit as far as the laser riser). It kept backing up and try to get back under. Not sure why the laser didn’t recognize that it was up against the sofa. It just kept readjusting and trying to get under it. After a little assistance, it proceeded to clean my large living room (18 x 22) in a little over 20 minutes. It proceeded to the next room, but then let me know that its bin was full, and boy was it. With four furry animals, it didn’t surprise me how much it picked up (the whole reason for getting it in the first place). I expect daily scheduled weekday cleanings will help keep that down. I will update more as I get a little more use out of Rosie the Robot!

So, you’ve had good experience with it cleaning up pet hair on carpet? That was one of my major quibbles with the unit I tested.

And, um, it’s GREEN?
